US Publication Day for The Lies Within, A Promotion, And A Thank You!

I’m delighted to share that the paperback version of The Lies Within is released in the US today, and will hopefully soon be available from all good bookstores, and of course libraries! The Lies Within is the third in the now bestselling DI Will Jackman series. I’ve been delighted at the response this novel has … Read More →

Booktastik – A Promotional Site for Authors

I’m delighted to host a guest post today from my dear friend, Dionne Lister, on new ideas for book promotion. Over to you, Dionne:

Hey, Jane, thanks so much for letting me take over your blog today. I wanted to chat about promotion for authors. As a self-published author, and even those who are with traditional publishers, we all have to promote our own books to gain new readers. It can be a nightmare. First, all the hours we spend on social media, and then, if you want to take it a step further, you need to decide where to go that will be effective and affordable. There’s so much to choose from: bookblast tours, banner ads on other sites, and email services to reader subscribers.

Feeling the Fear…

As April draws to a close, I’ve been reflecting on my experiences. It has been a wonderful book launch month. Friends and family have been unrelenting in their helpfulness and the local people of Northamptonshire have been so friendly and supportive. Just yesterday my copy of Northamptonshire Village Magazine ‘Village Connect’ arrived with a full page spread on my launch.

I’ve also been touched by so many of my dear online friends who have rallied behind me and shared, done interviews or featured the book on their blogs.  I couldn’t be more grateful for all the lovely support and kind words I’ve received.

In case you hadn’t guessed it, I’ve really enjoyed getting out there and meeting other readers at the book signings and I hope to be able to do some more of these. Being with an American publishing house for my first book meant that promotion last time was restricted to mostly online stuff; any real events were limited those I actually arranged myself. This time things have changed and my new publisher, Legend Press, is keen for me to get out there and take every opportunity to meet people.

Meeting Friends – Old and New…

Over the last few weeks I have been visiting nearby Waterstones shops to sign books and promote The Truth Will Out. I love book signings. It’s like somebody giving you a license to hover in a bookstore for several hours, browse the books and talk to engaging and interesting people.

These events have become a family affair for us. Hubby usually drives us there, chats to any friends who call in and keeps us supplied with lattes. Daughter bakes cakes or cookies, hands out bookmarks and chats to readers. It’s lovely that everyone is keen to get involved, not least because it means I don’t feel guilty for neglecting precious family time!

Pop-Up Bookshops: A New Concept in Book Promotion

As Christmas is the time when we traditionally flood the shops in search of those all important gifts, it seemed fitting to host a post from author and dear Twitter friend, Daisy White, who has utilised a new concept in independent book promotion which is gaining national interest. Over to you, Daisy:

This time last year I was writing a list of things to do for 2013, and one of them was ‘Start Indie Bookshop’… Funny how things turn out!

The Pop-Up Indie Bookshop (now Daisy White’s Booktique) launched as a market stall in March on a vile rainy day, with the very basic idea of bringing independent authors down to a grass roots level and giving them a chance to showcase on the High Street – so not just a bookshop, but a marketing platform for those wanting to promote but lacking the venue. The inspiration for the business was partly my own experiences as an author…
