You may recall that after finishing the contract with my US publisher in the summer, my first novel, An Unfamiliar Murder, has been out of print for a while. It was always my intention to make it available again, but I wanted to take some time to explore all the opportunities before I decided how best to re-publish this title. Having discussed it with my family, my UK publisher, my friends and spending many a long summer evening mulling over the best route to take, I’m happy to report today that I’ve finally decided to release the book myself.
This was not an easy decision to make. I’m not technologically minded and frankly the idea of putting a book out there on my own has always scared the hell out of me in the past. However, I have some very good friends who chose the self-publishing route for their books and they have assured me that it is not beyond my capabilities. I enjoy working with my publisher, Legend Press, very much and will continue to work with them on The Truth Will Out, Before It’s Too Late and hopefully other titles in the future. However, this decision will give me the opportunity to experience something new and different and I look forward to sharing my journey with you.
So… An Unfamiliar Murder will be re-released on 1.3.16.
I’d like to express my sincere thanks to the readers who have emailed and messaged me about the future availability of this title – I really appreciate your support. I realise March is a long time off, but with current commitments I feel it’s the right timetable at the moment in order to for me to produce a quality product. I’m currently spending a lot of time in Stratford upon Avon, researching and writing the next Will Jackman novel and I’d like to finish this book first. Also, An Unfamiliar Murder was initially written in 2010 and edited for the US market. I’d like to take time to spring clean the prose and freshen it up, and of course give it a brand spanking new cover. Plus, I am under no illusions, I have a huge amount to learn about the publishing process!
It’s felt oddly uncomfortable seeing this title out of print, rather like having a child who has gone away for a long trip and can’t get in contact. This was my first novel, the book that started this whole author journey which has been one of the most interesting and challenging of my life. It feels good to have finally made a decision and be working towards putting it out there again and I’d like to thank everybody who has helped and supported me along the way.
This will be the last time you see the old cover on my blog. I look forward to sharing the new cover with you later this year. If you are a self-published author, or are looking to publish your own work in the near future, do get in touch. I’d love to hear any tips on what did (and didn’t!) work for you.
