All About the Number 7

I’ve been double tagged by the lovelies – Dionne and Tonya. Like many others I don’t usually go in for chain letters, emails etc. but this one seemed like fun. Here are the instructions:

  1. Go to page 7 or 77 in your current manuscript
  2. Go to line 7
  3. Copy down the next 7 lines as they are (no cheating)
  4. Tag 7 other authors

OK, so being double tagged means double trouble. I’m giving an extract from pages 77 from my first published novel and my second work in progress, which I haven’t shared with anyone yet (feeling pretty vulnerable at the moment, LOL). Here you go:

Extract from An Unfamiliar Murder:-

And then she saw it, through the front window. The police car indicated and turned into her driveway in all its glorious bright colours. Her stomach bounced. Maybe they were bringing her bike back? She hoped so. She really needed some good news today. She made her way to the front door, opening it before the policeman had time to ring the bell.

“Morning officer,” she said brightly.

“Anna Cottrell?” The seriousness in his inflection was disconcerting.

“Yes.” She felt her face fall….

Extract from the sequel – as yet untitled:-

Eva could almost smell the sickly bile that rose in her throat. She swallowed it back, forcing her eyes to focus.

At that moment the clouds covered the last of the sunshine. Eva looked around at the tree branches, whipping up in the wind, buzzing like bees around a hive. A storm was coming. But nothing like the storm that was brewing inside her. A million and one thoughts collided in her head. What should she do? Go back to meet the police? “No!” But why were they here?

I racked my brains on who to tag with and couldn’t resist on coming up with some of the loveliest people on Twitter:

  1. Teresa Hamilton
  2. Laurie Hanan
  3. James Garcia
  4. Tammy Maas
  5. Felicity Lennie
  6. Alana Siegel
  7. Martha Bourke

Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

  1. I”ve been double tagged too, Jane — hmmm . . . and I do love your extracts. They are memorable, and I’m at the part reading An Unfamiliar Murder where the bike is still at the station house. A fun read.

  2. Well done Jane, both are great – am very intrigued about what Eva is up to! This is a cool challenge, yours is the first one I’ve seen 🙂

    • Hey Susi! Thanks for your lovely comment. Your feedback is very important to me as a fellow crime writer – especially on my work in progress, LOL. Thanks so much for stopping by. Yes, this is a great challenge:)

  3. Hi, Jane. Thanks for including me. I updated this week’s blog post (where I already took up this challenge) to include your name. Reading your first entry makes me want to read the book. Perhaps I shall. 🙂
